Burnley set to sign Churlinov from Stuttgart - Kompany made the difference
Darko Churlinov is set to leave VfB Stuttgart and join Burnley. Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg reported on Friday that the 22-year-old will join the Championship side on a permanent transfer.
All sides have reached an agreement. Stuttgart are set to receive more than €5 million once performance-based add-ons are factored in. Sport 1 reporter Patrick Berger also has reported that the deal is nearing completion. Churlinov is expected to complete his medical on Saturday and sign a contract until 2025.
Werner, Leno, Kabak & Co.: VfB Stuttgart's record departures
Decisive for a transfer was new manager Vincent Kompany. Kompany joined the club from RSC Anderlecht in the summer and is the best-paid manager in the Championship. Churlinov has been heavily linked with a move to Anderlecht before Kompany headed to England.
Churlinov to Burnley - Transfer originally not planned
"That isn't the plan," VfB sporting director Sven Mislintat said in July when asked whether the club would sell Churlinov. The 22-year-old left-winger spent last year on loan at 2. Bundesliga side Schalke where he managed to score two goals and six assists in 22 games. Schalke would have liked to keep the player long-term but could not put together a financial package that convinced Stuttgart.
