After the end of the Hinrunde (first half of the season), Transfermarkt has adjusted the market value of the Bundesliga for the first time in 2021. It is a complete update in which 479 players received a new market value. The latest update causes significant movement among the most valuable players in Germany's top-flight. While Jadon Sancho remains at €100 million, his Borussia Dortmund teammate Erling Haaland took the top spot thanks to a market value gain of €10 million.

While Borussia Dortmund struggled, the 20-year-old forward continued to break records and set new benchmarks on his way to the very top of the game. "Because he was able to continue his form from last season across all competitions, the interest in him from top clubs will not drop any time soon," Bundesliga market value admin Martin Freundl (Soyen) said. "Because of his consistency, he was able to increase his market value to €110 million, which makes him the most valuable player in the Bundesliga.

Bayern Munich with biggest minus in the Bundesliga - Kimmich replaces Gnabry

There is also movement behind the Borussia Dortmund duo. Serge Gnabry—the COVID-19 adjustment aside—sees his market value decrease for the first time since August 2016. The winger drops from third place to fifth place behind teammates Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies. The Canadian sees his value drop by €5 million (for more on this, read our North American special). Gnabry struggled to maintain his consistent performances from last season and lacked precision and timing, which is also reflected by his low output in goals and assists. Gnabry's market value drops by €20 million to now €70 million. Kimmich, whose market value went up to €90 million, replaces him as the most valuable German player.

Gnabry is a symbol of a trend at Bayern Munich; more than a dozen players from the Rekordmeister have seen their market value drop. Altogether, the squad's market value decreased by €50 million, which sees the club drop below PSG in international comparison. Despite the club's perceived dominance in the Bundesliga and undefeated run in the Champions League, there have also been weaknesses laid open in the DFB Pokal defeat to Holstein Kiel. The defence, in particular, had problems, and games without conceding have become a rarity. Exemplary for the whole defensive setup, the likes of Benjamin Pavard (-€10m to €35m) and Niklas Süle (-€11m to €37m) have lost in market value.

Aside from teams fighting against relegation like FC Schalke 04 and Hertha Berlin (both -€34m), Borussia Dortmund have also lost significantly and seen an overall squad value drop of €22 million. The face of Dortmund's crisis is Marco Reus; his market value dropped by €10 million to now €15 million—his lowest value since joining BVB in the summer of 2012. BVB's drop is being somewhat feathered by Haaland, Giovanni Reyna (+€8m to €38m), and Jude Bellingham (+€8m to €35m), seeing their market value increase.

Wirtz the most valuable teenager in the Bundesliga - Stuttgart gain the most

BVB's teenagers, however, are overshadowed by Florian Wirtz. "Aged 17, he has managed to completely compensate Kai Havertz's departure from Bayer Leverkusen," Freundl said. "Last year's winner of the Fritz-Walter Medaille in Gold [which is awarded to the best youth player in Germany] has more than met any expectations and is the biggest talent in German football. Because of the high demand in youth football players, his market value jumps from €24 million to now €45 million." The youngest Bundesliga player to ever score five goals in the Bundesliga is now the most valuable teenager in the German first division and the most valuable 17-year-old across the planet.

Wirtz ahead of Reyna The most valuable teenagers around the world Click here for overview Wirtz is one reason why Die Werkself sees the squad value grow by €33 million. The only club with a bigger jump is VfB Stuttgart. The newly-promoted side sees their squad value grow by €49 million. The youngest side in the Bundesliga has played attractive football thanks to a spectacular attacking brand of football, which has led to some inconsistencies. Nonetheless, VfB stars have caught attention, first and foremost Silas Wamangituka. Signed for just €8 million from Ligue 2 side Paris FC in the summer of 2019, the fast and technically brilliant striker has been responsible for some of the most spectacular goals in the Bundesliga this season. His market value is up by €10 million to now €25 million, which makes Wamangituka the most valuable VfB player alongside Nicolás González (+€9m).

Young, good performances at the highest level and as a result an attractive target on the transfer market—what is the case for Stuttgart's Tanguy Coulibaly (+€3m to €5m) and Orel Mangala (+€8m to €22m), also applies to players at other clubs. Newcomers like Schalke's Matthew Hoppe (+€2.9m to €3m), Hertha's Luca Netz (+€2.5m to €3.5m), Bayern's Jamal Musiala (+€14m to €24m) and Wolfsburg's Maxence Lacroix (+€9m to €17m) are among the biggest winners.

Neuhaus & Co. on the up - Angeliño with most significant jump among RBL players

Younger players like Mainz's Leandro Barreiro (+€3.5m to €7m)—the highest market value for a player from Luxembourg in history—Hoffenheim's Christoph Baumgartner (+€4m to €22m), Freiburg's Ermedin Demirović (+€6m to €10m), Leverkusen's Edmond Tapsoba (+€10m to €40m), Wolfsburg's Ridle Baku (+€6m to €17m), Gladbach's Florian Neuhaus (+€10m to €38m) and Leipzig's Tyler Adams (+€4m to €20m) have made a step in their developments.

No longer a talent is Angeliño. The 24-year-old has been Leipzig's best player in the Bundesliga and Champions League this season and one of the few players in Julian Nagelsmann's side to always play. The market value of the left-back grows from €25 million to now €35 million, which is significantly above the €20 million purchase-option anchored in his loan deal with Manchester City. That option will soon be triggered as it is tied to a certain amount of games.
