Núñez extends contract with Athletic Bilbao - Defender gives up exit clause

Athletic Bilbao have prematurely extended the contract with homegrown talent Unai Núñez, which originally ran until 2023. On Tuesday, the 23-year-old centre-back signed a new deal running until June 30, 2025. Núñez, who has been at Athletic since 2007, made the step to the first team in the summer of 2017 and has played a total of 80 competitive matches (one goal) so far.

In the course of the extension, Núñez becomes a further player who gives up his exit clause at Athletic. However, exit opportunities for employees in Spain are obligatory under labour law, which is why the clubs usually include them in their contracts through clauses. Previously, the release clause for the defender was set at €30 million. Multiple Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Wolverhampton, have reportedly followed his development this year.
