Porro completes Tottenham loan move - Doherty departs for Atlético Madrid

Tottenham Hotspur have made a dramatic deadline day transfer after completing the signing of Sporting defender Pedro Porro. Confirmed in the final hours of the January window by the London club, Spurs announced that they had signed the Spanish defender on an initial loan deal with an obligation in the deal that will allow the Premier League side to make the deal permanent in the summer.

Porro makes the move to London as the club’s second signing of the January window, following the arrival of Villarreal forward Arnaut Danjuma on a loan deal. Whose return to England just 18 months after departing Bournemouth in a €23.5m move to La Liga reportedly includes a clause that will allow Spurs to sign the forward on a permanent deal in the summer. The right-back position has been a consisten issue for Antonio Conte's side, with Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty proving to be a troublesome and inconsistent pair of options for the Italian head coach. As such, Doherty departed the club a few hours before Porro's deal was confirmed. Although initially planning on leaving on loan to join Atletico Madrid, loan restrictions for the Spanish side meant that Spurs eventually had to mutually terminate the Irish defender's deal so he could make the move to La Liga. The Irish talent has since signed a six-month contract with the capital side.
